School Dress Code

We expect all of our students to come to school in clothing and hair styles that are clean, safe for themselves and others, and do not distract from the learning environment. Clothing or hairstyles that may be fine for play at home may not be appropriate for school.

Please use the following guidelines to help your child dress appropriately for school:

--Straps on tank tops must be at least 1.5 inches wide, or another shirt must be worn over or under them.
--Shirts may not have deep necklines, very large armholes or display bare backs.
--No net shirts unless another shirt is worn underneath.
--If a shirt is too short to tuck in, it’s too short for school; no bare stomachs or bare backs.
--No underclothing may show.
--No short shorts. A guideline is that shorts should come to the fingertips when the child is standing with his/her arms to the side.
--No ripped or torn clothing of any kind, including jeans torn at the knees.
--No clothing that features alcohol, tobacco, drugs, gambling or bars.
--No hats in the building unless it’s a specially designated day.
--Because of the distraction it causes, we strongly discourage hair dying or hair streaking for children at this age, especially with non-natural colors.

In all cases, parents, please help your child to dress in clothing that is weather appropriate, comfortable, but not too revealing. The students are very active at recess and in p.e., and showing underclothing or too much skin becomes a problem. Clothes that are too baggy make it difficult for students to fully participate in recess and p.e. activities. Students need to wear sneakers on p.e. days and dress appropriately for outdoor recess every day. In the winter, we’ll be going outside if the temperature is above 15 degrees and the wind isn’t blowing, so be sure your child has a warm coat, hat and gloves. Please LABEL all articles of clothing. Our lost and found becomes a mountain of clothing items very quickly! Students who wear inappropriate clothing will be asked to change into something from our lost and found, call home for something different, or turn clothing inside out if it displays inappropriate messages.
