-We then choose poems to ready for our poetry reading on the last day of classes.
Period 5
-Classtime to work on the Common Assessment 4/Breadwinner Essay.  Many students finished this in class today and turned it in.  The due date is tomorrow!! I will mark "Turned In" on the parent portal at the end of the day for students who turned the assignment in today.  :)

Guidelines for turning in final essay:
-Title
-Indent each new paragraph
-Do not skip lines
-Write on the front of the paper only
-Use your neatest handwriting or type in a neat font
-Heading in the top right corner.  Heading is first and last name, the date, and the class period
-Use only pencil or blue or black ink (no marker or sharpie) if handwriting.




Tuesday, May 21, 2013 Periods 1,2, and 6

-Revise and Edit Common Assessment 4/Breadwinner Essay.  Checked rough drafts and began neat final copies.  Tomorrow's class time will be devoted to writing the neat, final copies.  These will be due on Wed for Period 2 and Thursday for Periods 1,5, and 6.



Friday, May 17, 2013
-Final Book Club meeting.  
-Worked on rough drafts of Common Assessment 4/Breadwinner Essay.  Rough drafts are due Monday!!!  There have been plenty of classroom opportunities to work on this at school.  Any student not having their rough draft done by Monday will face possibile discipliary action.  The kids have been warned.
-We will work on our neat, final copies here at school on Monday and Tuesday.  The final will be due on Thursday.
-If you still haven't turned in your zoo permission slip, bring that by Monday.

-Today we turned in Vocabulary #8 homework and took the quiz.  Retakes or makeups for the quiz will be on Thursday during Academic Focus time.  There is no new vocabulary homework this week.
-Our Hero Essay/Common Assessment 2 is due TOMORROW for periods 1,2, and 6.  It is due Wednesday for Period 5.  Click on the literacy home button above if you need copies of all the handouts.  You will turn in your final copy and rubric.  I will also collect your plan sheet and rough draft.
-We will begin watching the movie Invictus in class starting tomorrow.  Any student not finished with their essay will be sent out to work on that.  They may join us when their essay is complete.  Any student not bringing their permission slip by tomorrow will be doing an alternate assignment instead of watching the movie.  See Friday's post if you need to copy the permission slip.  
-The annual "Sip and Shop" will be taking place tomorrow in the Erwin Library/Media Center.  Kids can bring $1 to purchase hot chocolate and snacks.  The 10 Thousand Villages display will also be available if kids wish to purchase items.  Purchasing items and snack is optional.  There will be games for everyone.
